THE EMBASSY OF LITHUANIA HAS STARTED THE SERIES OF MEETINGS OF THE AMBASSADORS OF THE EU MEMBER STATES AND CANDIDATE COUNTRIES WITH THE HIGH DUTCH GOVERNEMENT OFFICIALS
During the Presidency of the EU Council, the Embassy of Lithuania will host series of meetings of the Ambassadors of the EU Member States, candidate countries and high officials of the Dutch Government. The Dutch Minister of Finance and the Chairman of the Eurogroup Mr. Jeroen Dijsselbloem was invited to the first debate that was held in The Hague on 4th of September.
The discussion focused on the measures that were taken by the EU in order to overcome the financial crisis and strengthen the economic and monetary union. The minister also presented the Dutch government’s efforts to tackle the economic crisis and how they will effect the country’s economy.
The Ambassador of Lithuania Darius Semaška has emphasized that the key objective of the Lithuanian Presidency of the EU Council will include strengthening confidence in the efficiency of EU financial policy. This will provide conditions for the sustainable growth of the economy and employment in the long term, and preserve the financial stability of the Eurozone and the EU. Lithuania will continue to effectively deal with issues caused by the economic and financial crisis, and will seek impetus for the recovery of the EU economy and strengthening the Economic and Monetary Union (EMU).
Discussions with the Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Frans Timmermans and the Prime Minister Mr. Mark Rutte are scheduled to take place in the Hague during the Presidency period.
