THE AMBASSADORS OF THE EU MEMBER STATES AND CANDIDATE COUNTRIES MET WITH THE PRIME MINISTER OF THE NETHERLANDS
On the 5th of December 2013 the Embassies of Lithuania and Greece in the Netherlands have hosted a meeting of the Ambassadors of the EU member states and candidate countries with the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of the Netherlands Mr. Mark Rutte.
In his opening remarks the Ambassador of Lithuania Mr. Darius Semaška has introduced the work performed during Lithuania's EU Presidency, stressing the importance of continuity in promoting Europe's economic growth, fighting unemployment and ensuring financial stability. The Ambassador has symbolically handed over the helm of the Council of the European Union to Greek Ambassador in the Netherlands Ms. Teresa Paraskevi Angelatou . In her speech the Ambassador of Greece has introduced the priorities of the upcoming Greek presidency. Greece will officially start presiding over the EU Council on 1 January 2014.
The Dutch Prime Minister Mr. Mark Rutte has congratulated Lithuania on its successful work during the Presidency. Prime Minister Mark Rutte and the diplomatic representatives of the EU and candidate countries have also discussed the top priority issues on the domestic and EU political agenda, such as promoting economic growth, creation of the Banking Union, migration policy, the upcoming European Parliament elections.
This event was the last meeting of the series of meetings of the EU and candidate countries Ambassadors and the Dutch Government officials that theLithuanian Embassy was hosting during the Lithuanian Presidency of the Council of the EU. The Dutch Minister of Finance and the Chairman of the Eurogroup Mr. Jeroen Dijsselbloem has participated in such a meeting in September. The Dutch Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Frans Timmermans has met with the Ambassadors in October.
