STUDENTS OF THE HAGUE INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL LEARN ABOUT THE TRANSATLANTIC FLIGHT OF STEPONAS DARIUS AND STASYS GIRENAS

On the 21st of April, the International Day event took place at the International School of The Hague. The annual event is an opportunity for students to present information about their country: culture, literature, art, dance, national cuisine and popular sports. The theme of this year’s event was dedicated to famous people. At the Lithuanian stand, students of the International School, members of the Lithuanian community and employees of the Embassy of Lithuania in the Netherlands presented to the visitors, students and their parents information about the famous transatlantic flight of Lithuanian pilots S. Darius and S. Girenas.

Guests of the event could get information not only about the life of Darius and Girenas but also learn about technical characteristics of the airplane, which was built for a long-distance flight in 1933 as well as lithuanian traditions.

Visitors could not only view videos of making various traditional Lithuanian dishes but could also taste a few of them - herring with beetroot, fried bread with garlic, curd cheese, zagareliai and sakotis.

The Hague International School is attended by 1300 children from 86 countries, including Lithuania (7 children). This year, 28 countries introduced their famous people during the International Day event.
