LITHUANIANS ALL OVER THE WORLD SANG THE NATIONAL ANTHEM
On July 6th - the State Day of Lithuania (the Coronation day of the King Mindaugas) - Lithuanians all over the world sing the National Anthem (Tautiška giesmė). It has already become a nice tradition in the Netherlands that on that day the Lithuanian Dutch Society and the Embassy of Lithuania invites Lithuanians residing in the country and their family members on a boat trip. This year they sang the National Anthem while taking a boat tour along the canals of Utrecht. The participants were welcomed by the Lithuanian ambassador in the Netherlands Darius Semaška who has emphasized that the Lithuanians living in the Netherlands continue this tradition for the fifth year already.
The tradition to sing the National Anthem at the same day all over the world has started in 2009, when Lithuania was marking the 1000-year anniversary of the first recorded mention of Lithuania in the Annals of Quedlinburg. Lithuanians all over the world were invited to sing the “Lithuania, Our Nation” by Vincas Kudirka. Since then on the 6th of July Lithuanians all over the world gather to sing the National Anthem.
