Lithuanian documentary of Romas Lileikis at the EUNIC's film festival in the Netherlands

Painful, dramatic years of changes. Uzupis, a nook of Vilnius, a place favored by poets, artists, and photographers is becoming the outpost of aggressive pragmatism. Those, who have lived there for a long time fear that Uzupis is losing it's identity. They wonder whether Uzupis is still the same, how long it will exist. The object of the film is a fragile and retreating world. The Republic of Uzupis is rather special; it has it's own anthem, constitution and a calendar. In the film of Romas Lileikis “Sasha“, the Republic of Užupis is seen through the eyes of Sasha and Laurynas, who have been living there since their birth.

Organizers - the Dutch Lithuanian cultural center and EUNIC Netherlands. The film festival „A new Europe in 20 years of film” is a part of a 1989+20 program cycle.
