In the aftermath of the Second World War, hundreds of thousands of Germans fled East Prussia and Königsberg to escape the advancing Red Army. As they fled, many children were either lost or witnessed the slaughter of their families. They were left to fend for themselves in the Baltic forests, battling with life, death, hunger and the whim of the Soviets. Most of these orphans were subsequently given a new identity.
