DEIMANTAS NARKEVIČIUS RECEIVES THE VINCENT AWARD

On the 12th of September, Deimantas Narkevicius (Narkevičius), a contemporary artist from Lithuania, received the Vincent Award, a prestigious European contemporary art award. Established on the initiative of the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, the Vincent Award is an important biennial award for contemporary European artists for the most actual and prominent contribution to modern art.

The main subjects of works of D. Narkevicius are history, memory and modernity.

The international jury, which was comprised of almost fifty prominent European artists of today, stressed that D. Narkevicius is one of the leaders in the world of contemporary art and of the intellectual dialogue. With his work, the artist has proved that perhaps the only way to understand the current European social and political situation is to study and to acknowledge the past.

The Vincent Award was presented by a representative of the country that received the Award in 2004 and in 2006, the Ambassador of Poland Janusz Stanczyk. The Ambassador of Lithuania, Vaidotas Verba, attended the ceremony and congratulated the artist from Lithuania and wished him further success.

The exhibition of the nominated works will be on display at the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam until the 30th of September.
