Concert announcement: Suprising Lithuania
Two special concerts with beautiful Lithuanian music on 8 June (Overasselt) and 9 June (Nijmegen).
The chamber-choir "Eenvoortwaalf", comprising 12 singers, will be directed by Žana Naidionova from Lithuania, now living in the Netherlands.
Concerts will be held on
Friday June 8, @8.00PM in Overasselt, Antonius Abtkerk, Hoogstraat 9 Overasselt, and
Saturday June 9, @8.00 PM in Nijmegen, Antonius Abtkerk, Dennenstraat 125 Nijmegen.
The entrance for both concerts is free (organizers welcome a gift at the exit).
Member of the choir Kasper Griffioen says that “conductor Žana Naidionova has given our choir very helpful insights into Lithuanian culture and folklore, which resonates in music and lyrics. The result is a surprising, authentic ode to Lithuanian culture. We sing about “Surprising Lithuania”. In this music we feel a strong connection with the national musical heritage.”
Unique concerts for the Netherlands will feature compositions from famous Lithuanian composers Balys Dvarionas, Vaclovas Augustinas, Vaclovas Samotulietis, Konstancija Brundzaitė, Laurynas Vakaris Lopas, Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis and Juozas Naujalis.
Žana Naidionova is from Lithuania, where she studied choral conducting and organ. In the Netherlands, she continued her studies with organ and classical singing. Žana regularly performs solo performances as a singer, and is also working as a singing teacher in Alkmaar. Together with pianist Annemarie Ruiters she forms a song duo "Egelantier". Since 2007 Žana also works as a conductor and currently leads several choirs.
