Carillon bells will ring across the Netherlands to celebrate the Centenary of the Restoration of Lithuania's Statehood

On 16 February 2018, Lithuania will celebrate 100 years of the Restoration of Lithuania’s Statehood. To mark that historic occasion, four Dutch carillonists Mr. Bauke Reitsma, Ms. Gerda Peters, Mr. Gijsbert Kok and Mr. Auke de Boer took the initiative to play music of renowned Lithuanian composers in churches across the Netherlands.

The performances will be held on 13, 16 and 17 February in seven locations:

On Tuesday, 13 February 2018, Mr. Bauke Reitsma will perform music by Lithuanian composers, as well composed by Joseph J. Visser, inspired by Lithuanian landscape in:

  • Baarn at 9:45 a.m. in the 'Pauluskerk', and
  • Weesp at 11:00 a.m. in 'Grote of Sint-Laurenskerk'.

On Friday, 16 February 2018, all four performers will give concerts in four cities:

  • Amersfoort at 10.00 a.m., Mr. Bauke Reitsma in tower of 'Onze Lieve Vrouwe',

The four carillonist have been guest-performers to the Pažaislis Musical Festival of Lithuania. The carillons’ concerts were so successful that in 2018 these musicians have been invited to join the festival again.

The Embassy of Lithuania highly appreciates the contribution to the Centenary celebration by outstanding Dutch musicians, and invites all music lovers to join these unique concerts.
