On 19 November, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Gabrielius Landsbergis met with Anže Logar, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Slovenia, which holds the Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

During the meeting, the Foreign Ministers discussed bilateral cooperation, the crisis caused by the Belarusian regime that had orchestrated the flows of irregular migrants to Lithuania, Poland and Latvia, the situation in the Eastern Neighbourhood and the Western Balkans, the EU enlargement and regional security issues.

Landsbergis noted that Lithuania and Slovenia celebrated the 30th anniversary of the establishment of their diplomatic relations on 22 November. Landsbergis also welcomed the intensified bilateral relations between the two countries at various levels over recent years and expressed hope that they would continue to be successfully developed. Lithuania's Foreign Minister also thanked Slovenia for showing its solidarity with Lithuania, as the country was facing challenges related to the Belarusian regime's hybrid attack.

The Foreign Ministers focused on the situation on the EU-Belarus border, a joint response of the countries directly affected by a hybrid attack and the EU to the actions taken by Alexander Lukashenko's regime. “It is very important for the European Union to maintain an agreed upon, unified position towards the Belarusian regime's hybrid attack. To defend the values of democracy and international norms, we must patiently and consistently implement the EU’s common response to the regime's provocations,” said Landsbergis.

Logar came to Lithuania to participate in the international high-level forum 'Future of Democracy', which was organised by Lithuania's Foreign Ministry and takes place in Vilnius on 19 and 20 November. The forum is held in support of the upcoming Summit for Democracy, initiated by the US President Joe Biden on 9 and 10 December 2021. The forum in Vilnius is expected to contribute meaningfully to the preparation of the December Summit.
