On 10 September, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Gabrielius Landsbergis met with the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European & Eurasian Affairs at the United States Department of State Michael J. Murphy. The meeting focused on issues relating to bilateral economic cooperation, regional and global security, as well as strategic challenges in relations with Russia, Belarus, and China.

Landsbergis noted that Lithuania implemented a values-based policy and highlighted the role of a reliable partner of the U.S. — Lithuania — in the fields of security and support for democracy.

The meeting also discussed opportunities to deepen economic ties between Lithuania and the U.S., and to cooperate to ensure the resilience of supply chains. The Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Egidijus Meilūnas called for a wider opening of the U.S. market to products from Lithuania and for providing new opportunities for U.S. investments in Lithuania.

The participants of the meeting exchanged views on the current political situation in Belarus. Lithuania's Foreign Vice-Minister Mantas Adomėnas drew attention to the growing number of political prisoners in Belarus and the need to demand their unconditional release. The meeting also discussed possible measures and international response to the hybrid migrant smuggling campaign carried out by Alexander Lukashenko's regime against Lithuania and other European Union countries.
