On 27 February, the Political Director of the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Asta Skaisgirytė attended the High-Level segment of the 40th session of the Human Rights Council held in Geneva. She reaffirmed Lithuania’s commitment to human rights and expressed strong support for the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and her mandate.

Permanent Delegate of Lithuania to UNESCO, Ambassador Irena Vaišvilaitė, informed Lazare Eloundou Assomo, Deputy Director of the World Heritage Centre, in Paris on 17 December, that Lithuania is joining the international initiative aimed at the reconstruction and recovery of the Iraqi city of Mosul.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania allocated EUR 30 thousand in humanitarian aid to Ukraine which will be transferred to the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). This contribution is another step in implementing the Humanitarian Response Plan for Ukraine initiated by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) that amounts to USD 187 million in 2018, however, has been implemented by only 38 per cent so far.

On 1 October, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania announced a Call to submit applications for the implementation of development cooperation projects under the Development Cooperation and Democracy Promotion Programme in 2019.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania has allocated EUR 60, 000 for humanitarian aid, of which EUR 20, 000 to Syria will be transferred to the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, while EUR 15, 000 to Mali and EUR 15, 000 Somalia will be transferred to the World Food Program. Lithuania‘s Foreign Ministry has also allocated EUR 10, 000 in humanitarian aid to the Guatemalan Government and the victims of volcanic eruptions. A catastrophic eruption of Guatemala's Fuego volcano has affected more than 1.7 million people.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania allocated EUR 50 thousand in humanitarian aid to Ukraine. The funds will be transferred to the United Nations (UN) migration agency, the International Organisation for Migration. This act is another contribution to the implementation of the Humanitarian Response Plan launched by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs. The Plan aims at allocations which are expected to reach USD 187 million in 2018.
